Transhumance in Verçenik valley
Verçenik valley located in Çamlıhemsin province in Eastern Pontic mountains in Turkey. Local climate is similar with Alpine environment but more humid. Even wild tea can be grown and used by local people for antioxidant. Hemsins are ethnic societies in the region. They transhumance in 3 parts. Beginning of April they migrate from Pazar province to the Ortaköy village. After 1 month they migrate to middle plateau for waiting the snow melts. After 20 days finally they migrate to the high plateau where located in 2100m. They spend their whole summer in the plateau. There are family farms and everybody is shepherd from child to the elder people. Solidarity of people is visible that every family help each other. Day start at 4 am with goat milking and it follows by cow milking. After, grazing starts and women start to cook cheese, milk and food for dinner. They don't have lunch. Every 2 hours people drink black tea. This is also social event that when tea time comes, everybody stop what they do and joining the tea time. Around 5 pm, goats start to go down from the mountain.
